Update: Loss of IT Services Due to Power Failure

by on April 14, 2016

Update: 5:50 pm April 14 – We anticipate that power to the GITC server room will be restored over night, allowing for many services to be brought online before 9:00 am Friday, April 15.

Priority will be given to our instructional systems (including WebMail by Google) followed by our web applications (i.e. Banner, complete website, tuition deposit, admissions applications) and then our academic research computing systems (AFS, High Performance Computing).

This time frame is contingent upon PSEG restoring power to GITC.  We will provide an update before 8 a.m Friday morning.

If you have any questions please contact the NJIT HelpDesk at 973-596-2900, Monday through Friday 8am – 9pm.

On April 14, at approximately 2:30 AM, the GITC, CAB and ME Buildings lost power due to a man-hole fire in the University Heights area. The power outage resulted in a total interruption of all NJIT IT Services housed in the GITC Data Center.

As of around 3:30 PM the following services have been restored:

  1. Moodle
  2. NJIT Wireless network (both NJIT and NJITsecure)*
  3. Portions of the NJIT website
  4. Web VPN
  5. WebEX

The following is a partial list of services that remain unavailable.

  • WebMail by Google
  • NJIT Tuition Deposit
  • Highlander Pipeline
  • Banner
  • AFS
  • Campus Directory
  • Software Download
  • Printing
  • Parts of the website
  • Drupal
  • High Performance Computing Clusters
  • MySQL
  • Oracle
  • Techsmith Relay

IST staff are working around the clock to restore all services.  Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a better estimate at this time because it is unclear when PSEG will be able to restore power.  We will provide regular updates to this site. If you have any questions please contact the NJIT HelpDesk at 973-596-2900, Monday through Friday 8am – 9pm.

An update regarding GITC, CAB and ME classes will be provided by 5:30 AM on Friday, April 15  through the Campus Notification System and website.

Thank you for your patience.
